Learning to Look: Early Photographs

Date: 26 February 2009
Place: Los Angeles, USA

The American Institute for Conservation-sponsored workshop "Learning to Look: Early Photographs" will take place at the J. Paul Getty Museum on Thursday February 26, 2009 from 11am until noon as part of the programming of the 97th annual meeting of the College Art Association.

First organized in 2002,"Learning to Look" workshops bring together art historians, conservators, and artists to discuss works of art. Led by a curator and a conservator, each workshop focuses on the material aspects of one type of object. Past workshops have focused on Classical art, Abstract Expressionist paintings, and Rodin sculptures.

This year's workshop will meet in the galleries of the J. Paul Getty Museum exhibit "Dialogue Among Giants: Carleton Watkins and the Rise of Photography in California" and will be led by Weston Naef, Senior Curator of Photographs, who organized the exhibit and Sarah Freeman, a J. Paul Getty Museum conservator who specializes in photographic materials.

There is no charge for this event and one does not have to be registered for the College Art Association meeting to attend. Participation is limited to 12 people and pre-registration is required. If you would like to register, please contact Rebecca Rushfield wittert(at)juno.com by Friday February 20, 2009
